I have often seen people wonder why Nigerian/African animated shows aren’t aplenty. I was contacted by a representative from EVCL companies who produce this series – Bino & Fino. It’s basically an animated show created by Adamu Waziri, a Nigerian animator and produced by his Nigerian based animation company EVCL. Bino and Fino is an African educational cartoon about a brother and sister who live in a modern day city in sub- Saharan Africa. In each episode Bino and Fino, with the help of their friend Zeena the Magic Butterfly and their family, discover and learn things about the world. The show is for children mainly between the ages of 3 and 6. The series shows aspects of African history, culture and languages to children some topics addressed are Nigeria’s Independence Day and Colonialism. It definitely fills the void for parents either back home or in diaspora looking to introduce their children to aspects of their culture.
If you are interested in learning more or watching a few of the episodes:

The DVDs can be purchased on the website. Also if you visit their youtube page, you can see little educational vinaigrettes on the side that include Bino and Fino counting in African languages and showing different maps and flags of different African countries. I think this will come in handy for parents who have been looking for something like this. Kudos to the team behind this.
