My Emmy Win Wishes

Image result for emmy award

The Oscars for TV is upon us and will be happening on Sunday, September 18. Due to scheduled life programming chances are high that I will not be watching this year’s offerings – which has not happened in…I don’t even remember, but it’s okay. In honor of the show, I will be sharing with you my fantasies of who I hope will be walking away with a trophy. The Emmys stick to tradition and are pretty old fashioned but the twist this year is that Game of Thrones isn’t eligible and some of the big name shows have ended and made room for some new names, so the voters have to actually think some before voting.

Please note that my bolded choices aren’t who I think will walk away with a trophy but more who I’d give it to, if it was a one woman Taynement voting board. Here we go:

Drama Series

Better Call Saul (AMC)

The Crown (Netflix)

The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)

 House of Cards (Netflix)

Stranger Things (Netflix)

This Is Us (NBC)

Westworld (HBO)

This was actually a tie between The Crown and This is Us for me. With Stranger Things a third. This is Us was the one show from above that elicited all the emotions from me and kept storylines pushing and also had a great pilot. It is the only network TV show, which means it worked in more eps. So yea, no brainer for me

Comedy Series

Atlanta (FX)

Black-ish (ABC)

Master of None (Netflix)

Modern Family (ABC)

Silicon Valley (HBO)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)

Veep (HBO)

Everyone on this list is deserving except Silicon Valley (because I don’t watch anymore) and Modern Family (like what??) I am not the biggest fan of Unbreakable but this last season actually made me laugh. Master of None truly is greatness and should be a contender. Veep is hilarious but I found the beginning of the latest season lagging a bit. But Black-ish truly is everything. Weaving social commentary with comedy? Greatness. The critics are jizzing over Atlanta and I get that it is different but while good, it is just an okay show to me.

Drama Actress

Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder)

Claire Foy (The Crown)

Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale)

Keri Russell (The Americans)

Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld)

Robin Wright (House of Cards)

Claire Foy is a close contender for me but I truly can’t get over what Robin Wright does as Claire Underwood. It’s so chilling. Chances are Elisabeth Moss will win to make up for never winning as Peggy on Mad Men but I’d be delighted if Robin or Claire win.

Drama Actor

Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us)

Anthony Hopkins (Westworld)

Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul)

Matthew Rhys (The Americans)

Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan)

Kevin Spacey (House of Cards)

Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us)

My two contenders belong to This Is Us. I know Sterling K gets all the shine but all my votes go to Milo Ventimiglia. Just because he makes it looks so easy to be the perfect dad doesn’t mean he should be overlooked. Go Daddy Jack!!

Comedy Actor

Anthony Anderson (Black-ish)

Aziz Ansari (Master of None)

Zach Galifianakis (Baskets)

Donald Glover (Atlanta)

William H. Macy (Shameless)

Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent)

It’s about time we get off the Jeffrey Tambor hype train. While they may  be hopping off to get on the Donald Glover train. My money is going to William H Macy. Frank is probably one of the most despicable characters on TV. He makes it happen and makes it believable. Problem is, I am not sure people buy Shameless as a comedy.

Comedy Actress

Pamela Adlon (Better Things)

Tracee Ellis-Ross (black-ish)

Jane Fonda (Grace and Frankie)

Lily Tomlin (Grace and Frankie)

Allison Janney (Mom)

Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep)

It’s a broken record but it’s really hard to argue against JLD. But if you feel you have valid points, I’d love to hear them.

Limited Series

Big Little Lies (HBO)

Fargo (FX)

Feud: Bette and Joan (FX)

The Night Of (HBO)

Genius (National Geographic)

I watched all of these except Fargo, which I dropped mid watch because I couldn’t take it anymore. I enjoyed all of them. Even Genius.

Limited Series Actor

Riz Ahmed (The Night Of)

Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock: The Lying Detectivek)

Robert De Niro (The Wizard of Lies)

Ewan McGregor (Fargo)

Geoffrey Rush (Genius)

John Turturro (The Night Of)

Yea Riz did good.

Limited Series Actress

Carrie Coon (Fargo)

Felicity Huffman (American Crime)

Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies)

Jessica Lange (Feud)

Susan Sarandon (Feud)

Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies)

I know all the focus is on Nicole because of her story line but I think Reese Witherspoon did fantastic work.

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

John Lithgow (The Crown)

Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul)

Mandy Patinkin (Homeland)

Michael Kelly (House of Cards)

David Harbour (Stranger Things)

Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us)

Jeffrey Wright (Westworld)

#TEAMTHISISUS

Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale)

Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale)

Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black)

Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things)

Chrissy Metz (This Is Us)

Thandie Newton (Westworld)

Not quite sure why Samira Wiley is here but okay. 11 wins for me.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Alec Baldwin (Saturday Night Live)

Louie Anderson (Baskets)

Ty Burrell (Modern Family)

Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)

Tony Hale (Veep)

Matt Walsh (Veep)

I don’t even care for the guy but Tituss Burgess deserves this. But how do you beat someone who mimics Trump?

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live)

Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live)

Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live)

Anna Chlumsky (Veep)

Judith Light (Transparent)

Kathryn Hahn (Transparent)

Truly don’t care about anyone in this category.

Television Movie

Black Mirror: San Junipero (Netflix)

Dolly Parton’s Christmas Of Many Colors: Circle Of Love(NBC)

The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks (HBO)

Sherlock: The Lying Detective (Masterpiece) (PBS)

The Wizard Of Lies (HBO)

Why is Black Mirror here? Why San Junipero?

Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie

Bill Camp (The Night Of)

Alfred Molina (Feud: Bette and Joan)

Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies)

David Thewlis (Fargo)

Stanley Tucci (Feud: Bette and Joan)

Michael K. Williams (The Night Of)

any arguments?

Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie

Judy Davis (Feud: Bette and Joan)

Laura Dern (Big Little Lies)

Jackie Hoffman (Feud: Bette and Joan)

Regina King (American Crime)

Michelle Pfeiffer (The Wizard of Lies)

Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies)

That’s it folks. Do you have any preferences? I’d like to discuss. Happy Emmy viewing.
