I wasn’t good on keeping up with the movies this year but we had diverse winners. We still have no black actress winning Best Actress since Halle Berry. The first Asian woman won for Best Director – she is also the second woman ever to win Best Director (the fact we are still saying firsts and seconds in a 93 year old show is sad). Daniel Kaluuya is now Academy Award winning Daniel Kaluuya to you and Anthony Hopkins winning Best Actor was the upset for the night.
Never was there any more proof that the world is opening back up than an actual red carpet for the Oscars. The stars were glad to be out the house and came out in their best get ups. Produced by Steven Soderbergh the show was definitely different and intimate. They chose to not show clips, they had no hosts and they presented Best Actor last (I won’t even get into the ickiness of why that was done).
