Award season is coming to a close pretty soon with the grand daddy of all Award Shows – The Oscars. It’s coming up in exactly two weeks, March 15. I tried my best to get to all the movies but with two weeks to go, I still have a lot of ground to cover. As always, here are the movies I think you need to see to get you all caught up on what is happening on Oscar night.
With each movie, I have included my quick thoughts on it and also where you can find it on streaming. Also remember that the list does not include any of the nominated shorts.
- Frankenstein – Have not watched (Netflix)
- Marty Supreme – One heck of an adrenaline rush with an unlikable lead character and unnecessary supporting characters. It’s a shame this is what Timmy is on track to win an Oscar for (Prime Video $$)
- One Battle After Another – very interesting premise but I liked it enoough. Sean Penn was fantastic in this (HBO Max)
- Blue Moon – Have not watched (Netflix)
- Sinners – Can’t say enough good things about this movie. My Best Picture pick. Nothing has topped it since I saw it (HBO Max)
- The Secret Agent – have not watched (Disney +)
- Sentimental Value – Very somber movie. I didn’t really feel much. Elle Fanning did not deserve a nom (Prime Video $$)
- Hamnet – The retelling of Shakespeare and his wife and the loss of their son. It was just okay to me. A lil’ dull but Jessie Buckley is on track to win Best Actress (Prime Video $$)
- If I Had Legs I’d Kick You – No idea what this movie is supposed to be about. It basically has no end game. Oh and ASAP Rocky is in it (HBO Max)
- Song Sung Blue – Really liked this one and didn’t realize it was a true story till afterwards. Kate Hudson deserved her surprise nom and Hugh Jackman deserved one (Peacock)
- Bugonia – Listen,Yorgos Lanthimos does odd movies but this was way over my head. The ending made me want to flip a table (Peacock)
- Weapons – Have not watched but it’s a horror movie (HBO Max)
- Kpop Demon Hunters – Have not watched (Netflix)
- Zootopia 2 – Have not watched (Disney + on March 11)
- The Perfect Neighbor – One of the most heartbreaking things you will ever watch told completely through police body cam footage with no talking heads (Netflix)
- F1 – have not watched (Apple TV)
- Train Dreams – I found this quite sad. Also a very stark reminder of mortality (Netflix)
- Avatar: Fire and Ash – have not watched
- It Was Just An Accident – have not watched (Hulu)
- Elio – have not watched (Disney +)
- Jurassic World Rebirth – have not watched
- The Smashing Machine – have not watched (HBO Max)
- The Ugly StepSister – have not watched (Prime Video $$)
- Sirat – have not watched
- The Alabama Solution – have not watched (HBO Max)
Hope this helps you in your movie watching picks. Let me know how many you have watched!
