My Emmy Wishes

My Emmy Wishes

The Emmys are coming up in a week on Sunday, September 18. I am usually always pissed at the Emmy nominations but I gotta say that this year, they just might have got this almost right. I wasn’t too mad at them (Cuba Gooding Jr over Sterling K Brown though?). Anyways, whoever the winners are, it’ll never satisfy everyone but no one said we couldn’t dream. Decided to go through a few of the noms and share who, in a perfect world, I would love to take home the trophy. Please note – these aren’t predictions. I have highlighted my dream winner in bold.

Lead actor in a drama

Kyle Chandler, “Bloodline”

Rami Malek, “Mr. Robot”

Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul”

Matthew Rhys, “The Americans”

Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan”

Kevin Spacey, “House of Cards”

I gotta tell you. This is tough. I watch everyone of these besides Ray Donovan and I can honestly say any one of these guys deserve it. I pick Matthew Rhys because The Americans is an underdog show and it’s easy to forget how much work goes into playing those spies.

Lead actress in a drama

Claire Danes, “Homeland”

Viola Davis, “How to Get Away With Murder”

Taraji P. Henson, “Empire”

Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black”

Keri Russell, “The Americans”

Robin Wright, “House of Cards”

I really should just put a blanket statement and say most categories are tough ones. My heart wants Taraji to win it but I cannot see Tatiana Maslany in a category and look the other way. I shall never understimate what she does on Orphan Black.

Lead actor in a limited series

Bryan Cranston, “All the Way”

Benedict Cumberbatch, “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride”

Idris Elba, “Luther”

Cuba Gooding Jr., “The People vs. O.J. Simpson”

Tom Hiddleston, “The Night Manager”

Courtney B. Vance, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson”

If you watched the show, there really is no explanation needed and if you didn’t why not?

Lead actress in a limited series

Kirsten Dunst, “Fargo”

Felicity Huffman, “American Crime”

Audra McDonald, “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grille”

Sarah Paulson, “The People v. O.J. Simpson”

Lili Taylor, “American Crime”

Kerry Washington, “Confirmation”

The answer is always Sarah Paulson. The end.

Lead actor in a comedy

Anthony Anderson, “black-ish”

Aziz Ansari, “Master of None”

Will Forte, “Last Man on Earth”

William H. Macy, “Shameless”

Thomas Middleditch, “Silicon Valley”

Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent”

Anyone but Jeffrey Tambor . It’s enough. And it’s aggravating because Transparent is not a comedy.

Lead actress in a comedy

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep”

Ellie Kemper, “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”

Tracee Ellis Ross, “black-ish”

Laurie Metcalf, “Getting On”

Amy Schumer, “Inside Amy Schumer”

Lily Tomlin,  “Grace and Frankie”

Deep down inside, I would like to see an upset with Tracee but I also know that it is JLD’s to lose.

Supporting actor in a limited series or movie

Jesse Plemons, “Fargo”

Bokeem Woodbine, “Fargo”

Hugh Laurie, “The Night Manager”

Sterling K. Brown, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”

David Schwimmer, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”

John Travolta, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”

Supporting actor in a drama series

Jonathan Banks, “Better Call Saul”

Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones”

Ben Mendelsohn, “Bloodline”

Kit Harington, “Game of Thrones”

Michael Kelly, “House of Cards”

Jon Voight, “Ray Donovan”

TV movie

“All the Way”

“Confirmation”

“Luther”

“Sherlock: The Abominable Bride”

“A Very Murray Christmas”

Limited series

“American Crime”

“Fargo”

“The Night Manager”

“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”

“Roots”
