I was mulling over the top albums for the last week and realized the #1 albums for the last 3 weeks have been held by African Americans, which is pretty cool seeing as lately all we hear is hip hop and r&b is dead or dying. So I decided to go back 10 weeks and see how many of the weeks were held by African Americans.
Week of Aug. 8: DS2 by Future
Week of Aug. 1: Black Rose by Tyrese
Week of July 25: Dreams Worth More than Money by Meek Mill
Week of July 18: Dreams Worth More than Money by Meek Mill
Week of July 11: Dark before Dawn by Breaking Benjamin
Week of July 4: Before this World by James Taylor
Week of June 27: Drones by Muse
Week of June 20: How Big How Blue How Beautiful by Florence + The Machine
Week of June 13: AT.LONG.LAST A$AP by A$AP Rocky
Week of June 6: Blurryface by twentyone pilots
So, these are the #1’s in the last 10 weeks. There’s been 5 African Americans that have held this top spot. Even though numbers haven’t been the highest in these weeks, being #1 is still an achievement that can’t be taken from them. Also, Billboard has reported that Jill Scott’s new album is poised to take the #1 spot next week.
