My thoughts on the Emmy Nominations

I know what to expect from the Emmys yet, every year they get me. The Emmys are like an older person who is averse to change. They stick to the same people every  year, it’s almost like they don’t even watch TV. Again, I should be used to this because here I am saying the same thing last year, but clearly I am not. Today’s nominations actually pissed me off I just wanted to flip tables. It’s so unfair that cable networks get all the glory and new talent is barely recognized but oh well. I’ll stop ranting, here are my thoughts on some categories.

Best Comedy Series

“The Big Bang Theory”

“Louis”

“Modern Family”

“Orange Is the New Black”

“Silicon Valley”

“Veep”

My thoughts: I think the Modern Family reign is over and it’s now the time of Orange is The New Black. It’s in the comedy category because that’s how they submitted it. I do believe there should be a dramedy category, that’s where Shameless, OITNB, Greys et al belong. If I had my way I’d give it to Silicon Valley.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series

Lena Dunham, “Girls”

Edie Falco, “Nurse Jackie”

Julia Louis Dreyfus, “Veep”

Melissa McCarthy, “Mike & Molly”

Amy Poehler, “Parks & Recreation”

Taylor Schilling, “Orange Is the New Black”

My thoughts: I don’t have much to say in this category, everyone besides Julia Louis Dreyfus is just regular and not exceptional.

Best Actor in a Comedy Series

Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory”

Ricky Gervais, “Derek”

Matt LeBlanc, “Episodes”

Don Cheadle, “House of Lies”

Louis C.K., “Louie”

William H. Macy, “Shameless”

My thoughts: Ricky Gervais?? People watch Derek? Is he that good? Is Netflix on the same donor list HBO is on? I do enjoy Episodes but again, this is a case of shows being good but actors just okay. I don’t watch Big Bang. For the fact that he makes me hate him so much, if I had my way I’d give it to William H Macy

Supporting Actor, Comedy Series

Andre Braugher, “Brookiyn Nine-Nine”

Adam Driver, “Girls”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, “Modern Family”

Ty Burrell, “Modern Family”

Fred Armisen, “Portlandia”

Tony Hale, “Veep”

My thoughts: The contenders to me are Tony Hale, Ty Burrell and Adam Driver. Tony Hale won last year wonder if they’ll give it to him again. If I had my way I’d give it to Adam Driver.

Supporting Actress, Comedy Series

Mayim Bialik, “The Big Bang Theory”

Julie Bowen, “Modern Family”

Allison Janney, “Mom”

Kate Mulgrew, “Orange Is the New Black”

Kate McKinnon, “Saturday Night Live”

Anna Chlumsky, “Veep”

My thoughts: Very uninterested. If I had my way I’d give it to Kate Mulgrew

Best Drama Series

“Breaking Bad”

“Downton Abbey”

“Game of Thrones”

“House of Cards”

“Mad Men”

“True Detective”

My thoughts: The Good Wife had it’s best season ever. Managed a death and a new partnership, all while staying true to itself and having us all in and yet Downton “fluffy” Abbey gets a nod over them??? They can suck it. If I had my way I’d burn down the Emmy committee.

Best Actress in a Drama Series

Lizzy Caplan, “Masters of Sex”

Claire Danes, “Homeland”

Michelle Dockery, “Downton Abbey”

Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife”

Kerry Washington, “Scandal”

Robin Wright, “House of Cards”

My thoughts: ONCE AGAIN THERE IS NO TATIANA MASLANY. HOW?? I complained about this last year but whatever really. She should be in best actress and best supporting actually. But I won’t waste my breathe. Now that that’s off my chest. Good list. Hats off to Caplan, Marguiles. Glad they are nominated. Not sure why Dockery is here. I can understand the sentiment behind Washington, she just generally had a good year and it’s great to see an African American be recognized. I think we are all over Claire Danes now. If I had my way Robin Wright all the damn way.

Best Actor in a Drama Series

Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad”

Jeff Daniels, “The Newsroom”

Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”

Woody Harrelson, “True Detective”

Matthew McConaughey, “True Detective”

Kevin Spacey, “House of Cards”

My Thoughts: WHY IS JEFF DANIELS HERE AGAIN??? I am still not over him winning the Emmy last year (clear indication of why I shouldn’t take the Emmys seriously). Matthew Rhys from The Americans should take his place. It’s quite clear that this is McConaughey’s to lose but that was Cranston’s last season. My soft spot goes for Harrelson but if I had my way I’d give it to Kevin Spacey. (the fact that he hasn’t won for this role is crazy)

Supporting Actor, Drama Series

Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”

Jim Carter, “Downton Abbey”

Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones”

Josh Charles, “The Good Wife”

Mandy Patinkin, “Homeland”

Jon Voight, “Ray Donovan”

My thoughts: Honestly, this might be the hardest category this year well besides Jim Carter. Being honest, Aaron Paul didn’t do much the last season. Dinklage, always slays, Josh Charles, sigh the death sentiment, Patinking was really great last season despite the mediocre season and the little I saw of Voight was good stuff. If I had my way…I really don’t know what I’d do. Ok, if it’s based on the just concluded season of GoT, then Dinklage otherwise Mandy Patinkin.

Supporting Actress, Drama Series

Anna Gunn, “Breaking Bad”

Maggie Smith, “Downton Abbey”

Lena Headey, “Game of Thrones”

Christine Baranski, “The Good Wife”

Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men”

Joanne Froggatt, “Downton Abbey”

My thoughts: Everyone here is deserving. Yep, even the Downton gals. If I had my way, I’d give it to Christine Baranski.

Reality-Competition Program

“The Amazing Race”

“So You Think You Can Dance”

“Dancing with the Stars”

“Top Chef”

“Project Runway”

“The Voice”

My thoughts: Listen, Survivor is the best reality-competition show out there BAR NONE. Yes they have given the amazing race the award 9 times. It’s enjoyable but not 9time winner worthy. If I had my way, I’d flip the Emmy committee the bird.

Outstanding Host: Reality-Competition Program

Betty White, “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers”

Tom Bergeron, “Dancing with the Stars”

Jane Lynch, “Hollywood Game Night”

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, “Project Runway”

Cat Deeley, “So You Think You Can Dance”

Anthony Bourdain, “The Taste”

My thoughts: I thought we were all of the Betty White bandwagon but I guess not. Can’t take this seriously. Tim Gunn is not even a host, he’s a mentor. No Jeff Probst, No Ryan Seacrest. If I had my way…meh.

Outstanding Guest Actor in Drama

Paul Giamatti as Harold Levinson in “Downton Abbey”

Dylan Baker as Colin Sweeney in “The Good Wife”

Reg E. Cathey as Freddy in “House Of Cards”

Robert Morse as Bertram Cooper in “Mad Men”

Beau Bridges as Barton Scully in “Masters of Sex”

Joe Morton as Rowan Pope in “Scandal”

My thoughts: Not sure why Robert Morse is here but it’s really between Baker, Bridges and Morton for me. If I had my way I would give it to Joe Morton.

Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series

Margo Martindale as Claudia in “The Americans”

Diana Rigg as Lady Olenna Tyrell in “Game of Thrones”

Kate Mara as Zoe Barnes in “House of Cards”

Allison Janney as Margaret Scully in “Masters of Sex”

Jane Fonda as Leona Lansing in “The Newsroom”

Kate Burton as Sally Langston in “Scandal”

My thoughts: Kate Mara was in one episode for like how many minutes? ok. When there’s a choice, the answer is always Margo Martindale.

Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series

Natasha Lyonne as Nicky Nichols in “Orange is the New Black”

Uzo Aduba as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in “Orange is the New Black”

Laverne Cox as Sophia Burset in “Orange is the New Black”

Tina Fey as Host in “SNL”

Melissa McCarthy as Host in “SNL”

Joan Cusack as Sheila Jackson in “Shameless”

My thoughts: This is funny. Every year, they nominate Joan Cusack. I think she’s actually won? not sure. Why is Laverne Cox here? The social impact surely not the work. I know Aduba has all the hype but if I had my way I’d give it to Natasha Lyonne. She really does great work as Nicky.

I think those are the main categories. I didn’t list Fargo’s category but Fargo should win all the awards (sorry Benedict Cumberbatch). They really need to get a handle on categories, allowing them to choose what category they want is kinda crazy. Treme just turned itself in the mini series category, True Detective decided to do same and we all know AHS started the trend. Emmy voters should also give broadcast network a chance, shoving all awards and accolades to cable network is not fair. It should be based on the work. Live a little, Emmy voters see what’s out there and don’t be scared to shake up nominations every now and then. What about you? See any of your favorites? or what do you think was snubbed?
